                  Security System Problems

1) Have you had any phone line work since your Security System has been installed, if so please  test your system by calling the Central Station and putting your system into alarm.

2Q: Security System did not turn off when I put in the code.

2A: People get used to their keypads and enter their codes too fast especially when the system goes into alarm. The alarm panel is doing many things so listen that each key stroke is being accepted.

3Q: Keypad says zone number and check or bat.

3A: Either the transmitter battery is low, the cover on the transmitter has not been installed correctly or somebody has stolen the transmitter.

4Q: How often do I change my transmitter batteries.

4A: The keypad will tell you when to change the batteries. The instruction manual says about every five years and in real life seems to be about seven years.

5Q: Where do I buy the batteries for the wireless transmitters.

5A: Longs, Payless, Radio Shack etc... They are 3 volt camera batteries.

6Q: How do I change the batteries.

6A: Call the Central Station and tell them you are changing the batteries first. Then use a screwdriver to open the cover on the side that has a notch in the middle. The keypad will make noise and if this bothers you push the star key to shut it up. Next look at how the battery had been installed and remove. Install the new battery exactly the same way or you will distroy the transmitter.

7Q: My sounder is sounding and I can not turn it off.

7A: Security Systems are microprocessors and like computers can sieze. Most Security Systems have what is called a watch dog circuit to prevent siezure, but older (much older) systems do not have this watch dog and may sieze. Although any system could sieze. If this happens to you, you should disconnect the transformer and unplug the battery and call for service. You may need a new alarm panel....

8Q: How long have wireless Security Systems been reliable.

8A:  Any wireless component is controlled by the FCC. About 1991 there have been improvements that have made wireless systems just like wired systems and very dependable. If your system was installed before 1991 you may not know when your batteries have gone dead and your system may not even work.

These are only a few questions and if you have any other questions please ask by e-mail and they will be answered.
